Night owl habits
I know it's only Tuesday, but this week has been rough so far. It's my own fault, I've been staying up too late at night. I heard the alarm go off at my new earlier time to rise, but I just could not get up. That means I didn't do my stretches yesterday or this morning. Also didn't drink any water before work. Not to make excuses, but I am a night owl and I revert to my natural circadian rhythm on weekends. It sure makes the start of my week tough though. Tonight, I plan to go to bed by ten. I often plan to go to bed early, but somehow I seem to wake up after 9 pm and the hours between nine and eleven just fly by!
It's looking like it will be a grey day today. The temperature is still in the mild range at -6, but considering it was -4 earlier this morning I suspect it may not stay that way for long. But, it is snowing too. I don't like looking at the forecast, preferring to take the day as it is when it comes. However, I will probably look tonight to see if I should plug my car in overnight.
Today, I will return to the trails around the old gravel pit. I far prefer walking in the forest than on the sidewalks of the suburb. Plus, it's a lot easier on my joints walking on the packed snow of the trails than on the pavement.
Although I'm not nearly as excited about going for my walks as I was in the first few days of this blog, I am really looking forward to seeing the results of the exercise. Today, as I plodded and trudged through the falling snow, I thought about how good I will feel when I can fit back into the new jeans I bought last March.
Speaking of my walk, I walked backwards down a slight decline and wow, was that ever easier than walking backwards up an incline. It was still a good exercise in balance, as I have to watch the trail for bends and tripping hazards and doggy bombs. Altogether, I walked another 2300 meters today in just under forty minutes. I'm not pushing myself to go fast on these walks, just ambling along at a natural pace. I'm pretty pleased at my progress. :)
As I walked, I decided to add ten squats to my routine. Not every day, but every second day. Next week, we'll add another set of ten squats. When I got back to the office, I was so hot and tired I needed to wait a while before I could consider doing the squats. I heated the tomato soup I brought for lunch and then waited for that to digest before starting off with stretches. The squats went fairly quick and easy, even with me pausing for a count of three at the bottom, and although I was tempted to make it twenty I stopped at ten.
I am feeling good! Hope you're feeling good too! Until next time...
