Setting goals

Good morning dear readers! I hope you all are finding some inspiration from this blog.

I was up early again this morning and did some more stretching. It was only about five minutes before I settled down on the couch with my coffee to wake up, but it sure felt good. Tomorrow, I'm going to try drinking a glass of cold water first thing after waking. I know I don't drink enough water and it certainly can't hurt!

I know I said in my first post that I wasn't going to set a goal for a particular weight or clothing size. But while walking yesterday I decided that I would set mini goals to ensure I can celebrate milestones along the journey to wellness. For my first goal, I plan to walk or exercise every day for forty-nine days and strive to lose ten pounds. Why forty-nine you ask? Well, the fiftieth day will be my 51st birthday and although I may want to, I'm not going to commit to walking that day.

Speaking of yesterday's walk, I mentioned to my boyfriend last night how far I'd walked at lunch and he congratulated me on walking 2.5 kilometers. I hadn't actually put it together that's how far 2500 m was and it surprised me. Although I grew up learning the metric system from about grade four on, most of my parent's generation continued to use the imperial system and I admit, I have too. I have a much better idea of what an inch or a foot looks like than I do a centimeter or meter.

I know that I won't be able to continue doubling my distance each day, as yesterday's walk was about the limit of what I'm able to take without causing myself injury - at this time. Still, I'm pretty thrilled at the distance I did cover! And, as I continue to improve my health and strength, I will eventually be able to go farther. This is progress, and I'm pretty excited about it.

Today's temp is a balmy -5 C and although there are clouds, the morning has transitioned from the night dark to blue sky, finally. Our Territory didn't participate in the 'fall back' of Daylight savings time and it doesn't get light here until about 11 am. Bonus, there doesn't seem to be a wind either! Good thing, since once again I didn't bring snow pants with me today.

Well it's a good thing I didn't try and wear my snow pants today. I was so warm I ended up taking off my hat and coat by the end of my walk. I usually dress in multiple layers so I don't get overheated, but I didn't anticipate it being so warm today and wore a heavy sweater. My coat is one of those three-in-ones with a down inner liner. I was only wearing the inner liner today, thank goodness, since I was actually sweaty on my return.

I walked another 2271 m today! Although hot and sweaty, I was not as fatigued at the end as yesterday. More progress! I'm pretty thrilled with my activity this week and am loving having this blog to keep me accountable. I hope it is inspiring you too, readers. Please let me know how you're doing in the comments below.

Until next time...
