Excitement about -20?!!
I'm so excited for my walk today at lunch! This is definitely a change from the usual dread I feel. Since I live in the north, but prefer a warmer climate, this time of year is when I usually want to just stay indoors and semi-hibernate. Oh sure, I snowboard when I can afford to, but suffice it to say that I am not a huge fan of winter.
So what's different now? Well, I felt so good after my little walk yesterday morning, mentally and physically, I'm all fired up to do it again. Plus, I shared this blog's first post in a Facebook group yesterday and had an overwhelmingly positive response! So, now I don't feel like I'm doing it alone.
Even the fact that the sky is overcast and the temp has dipped down to almost -20 C isn't enough to dim my enthusiasm. Finally, it's time to get dressed and do this!
Well, that was short and sweet, I was only out about fifteen minutes. Still, I managed to increase the distance walked to almost 1261 m, almost double yesterday! It was mostly flat ground though, as opposed to the gradual hill I have near my house. Distance doesn't really matter at this point though, I think building the habit is the important thing.
Of course, exercise alone isn't going to be enough, I know. Yesterday was also day one in cutting down the size of my portions. Adding more greens is also a good idea, and I'm thrilled to know that we now have a local business that will deliver locally grown greens and herbs year round! I'm grateful to the founder of Yukon Helpers Network for posting about Cold Acre Food Systems on the charity's Facebook page. I immediately went and signed up.
I'm an avid supporter of shopping local for as many of my purchases as I can afford. I've been supporting our local farmers by buying the majority of my meat from one of the Yukon Born & Raised coalition outlets. It's definitely more expensive than the grocery store, but I've found that there is a great deal less water and fat, in the hamburger at least. Plus, I can't help but think it has to be healthier.
Anyway, this blog isn't about preaching, or selling anything. Hope you enjoyed your walk today if you got out for one. :)
Until next time!
